On 23 April 2006, the
Middlebury Police Department hosted the 1st Annual Addison County Law
Enforcement Formal at the Middlebury Inn. In attendance were
officers from the Middlebury Police Dept., Bristol Police Dept.,
Vergennes Police Dept., Vermont State Police, Addison District Court,
Addison County States Attorney's Office, and others. Governor Jim
Douglas and his wife, Dorothy, also attended. Keynote speakers for
the event were Staff Sergeant Bill "Wild Bill" Guarnere, US Army (ret.)
and Det./Sgt. Joe Blozis, NYPD. Guarnere was a member of Easy
Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division and a WWII veteran of the
allied invasion of Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of
the Bulge and is featured in the book and HBO series, "Band of
Brothers." Blozis is a Detective/Sergeant with the New York City
Police Department crime scene unit and was present at the World Trade
Center during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.
A certificate of
appreciation was presented to Kevin Parizo, a resident of Middlebury and
long-time supporter of the Middlebury Police Department. |
