The Town of
Middlebury: 
Middlebury is a diverse community of approximately 8,500 permanent
residents. It is comprised of 38 square miles located in the west
central part of Vermont. Middlebury is the shire town of Addison
County, which is largely rural. Middlebury, therefore, is home to
many of the state services
in the county, such as the Superior, Family
and
District Courts, Porter Hospital, Department for Children and
Families, employment and welfare offices. It is also the center
for education, business and industry in this part of the state.
The Town has a village center where most services, retail, housing a nd
industry are located. The remainder of the community is made up of
scattered housing developments, agricultural land and the village of
East Middlebury.
    The
community has two colleges - The 2,200+ student Middlebury College and
the Community College of Vermont. There are three public schools
in Middlebury - An elementary school with over 500 students, a regional
middle school with 800+ students and a regional high school and
vocational school with 1000 students. There are three private
elementary schools - The Bridge School, Aurora School and St. Mary's
Parochial School. The area is visited year-round by tourist from
all over the United States and Canada.
